Alliance for a Healthier Generation launches Healthy Schools Builder (HSB) to help schools establish a healthier school environment for staff and students.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a joint initiative between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation.They have come together to fight one of our nation's leading healthproblems - childhood obesity.

Healthy Schools = Healthy Kids!
Helping schools is one of the most efficient and effective ways of shaping the life-long health, education and well-being of children and adolescents. The Alliance has created the Healthy Schools Builder (HSB) - an easy online tool that helps schools take steps to creating a healthier environment for students and staff.

Through answering a series of questions related to policy, systems, healthy eating, physical activity and staff wellness, the HSB helps schools create customized action plans and provides tools to schools for reaching specific health and wellness program goals. It also identifies whether a school is eligible to apply for the Alliance's platinum, gold, silver, or bronze awards and provides tools to help them reach the next level of recognition.

If You Want to Review the Site Before Official Registration.
There can be only one official entry per school. If you want to review the site first before officially registering, or if you are a school health professional who doesn't work in a school setting and would like preview the Healthy Schools Builder, please do so by following these steps:

• Click on New Users
• Fill in First and Last Name, Email and Password
• For State - select New York from the drop down list
• For City - select New York from the drop down list
• For School - select Hugo from the drop down list

This gives you access to a virtual school specifically set up for reviewing the tools on the site. The user must activate the account from the email sent to them. Only after they have they activated the account will they be able log-on with their user name and password

A message will appear - this is normal for guests to get and will pop-up because hundreds of guests will use the Hugo account. You may ignore this message.

When You Are Ready to Officially Register Your School.
When you have identified the person that will fill out the HSB Survey, you are ready to register. Your school is already listed on the HSB database. All you have to do is follow the same steps as in the New York Hugo review site, but this time you will select your own state, city and school. Register free of charge to become part of the Healthy Schools Program and gain access to the Alliance's tools, resources and school awards program.

You will receive an email shortly after filling in the registration form, with instructions for activating the account. Fill out the survey completely, and you will get an analysis of what needs to be done to improve your Healthy School level, and if you qualify for awards or assistance.
